My Favorite Cocktail: The Twilight Martini

Updated: Jul 27

On a breezy evening many summers ago I sat on a rooftop bar in Jacksonville, Florida. I will never forget the view of the ocean, the wind blowing my hair, and the taste of the best cocktail I've ever had. It was a slightly sweet and tart with a hint of red wine, raspberry and orange. The bar was full of people enjoying after work cocktails and vacationers looking for a great drink with a view. There was an event at the hotel below with a crowd of people mingling around. As I sipped my martini, a glass from the table across from me flew into the air and crashed to the hotel courtyard below. I will always remember how everything seemed to happen in slow motion. It's as if the ocean breeze lifted the glass and held it still in the air until it decided where to fling it. Fortunately, no one was injured but that night, many glasses took flight!

I clung to my delicious martini and wouldn't let go! We were never able to get the recipe and had to come home to recreate it. I am very fortunate to be married to a chef and craft bartender who is skilled at recreating cocktails and savory recipes! Stay tuned for more of his amazing recreations!

I'm excited to share that we were able to recreate this delicious and memorable martini, and now you can try it to!

Twilight Martini

2 oz Blood Orange Vodka

1.5 oz Red Blend

1 oz Lemon Juice

0.5 oz Raspberry Liqueur

0.5 oz Simple Syrup

Fill a shaker with ice, pour in all ingredients and shake it like you mean it! Strain and pour in your favorite coup glass. Garnish with an orange or lime slice.

Notes:

Effen Blood Orange Vodka is delightful

You may choose whichever red wine makes your heart happy (something a bit dry is best)

Simple Syrup is better homemade and super easy to make- in a saucepan, combine 1 cup of cane sugar and 1 cup of water with a whisk until all the sugar is incorporated. Bring just to a boil and turn off the heat. Once it's cooled, you have plenty of simple syrup for cocktails with friends!
